Biography

Mr. Skin admittedly does not know a whole lot about German actress Nadia Henkowa, but what he does know is that the dark-haired dame gets naked on screen. She first debuted in the flick The Man with the Glass Eye in 1969, as an uncredited woman in a pool hall; then as a flower-seller in the short film Fauna, Flora, Fiedermaus, and Mavra in the TV movie The Eternal Husband that same year. In due time, her nakedness hit the big screen in the German/Swedish/Swiss film The Devils’ Plaything (1973), aka The Curse of the Black Sisters, written and directed by Joseph W. Sarno, a New York filmmaker known for being one of the pioneering directors of the sexploitation film genre. Shot in only 22 days, the low-budget flick was not short of creativity, and had the tagline: “Pleasures That Fire The Flesh…Horrors That Freeze The Blood.” Nadia plays the lead role of Wanda The Evil Lesbian, housekeeper by day, and satanic high priestess by night, who presides over a female coven of lady-loving followers. In a basement ceremony, Nadia lets her long, dark hair loose, and her breasts bare except for a little paint and sparkly stuff. She dances and jerks around a fire, while lots of sapphic activity goes on around her, plus some self-love, and some wide-eyed innocence being destroyed. Seemingly, a mutual admiration was formed between Nadia and Sarno, as she went on to also star in Bibi(1974) as Toni, Bibi’s aunt; and Butterfly (1975) as Ruth, with a bronzed chest that gets treasured by a hot blonde chick. To know her is to love her, but to see her is divine.
