Monica (2022)

Trans actress Trace Lysette plays the titular character, Monica, a trans sex worker with relationship issues who is suddenly contacted the sister-in-law (Emily Browning) she didn’t know she had. She’s informed that her mother Eugenia (Patricia Clarkson), whom she hasn’t seen since being kicked out as a teenager, is dying from a brain tumor, and despite their ugly history revolving around Monica’s gender and sexuality, she decides to return to home. But the reunion is nothing like she expected, due to her mother’s condition plus the fact that her mother never saw her post transition before. Monica’s mother simply doesn’t recognize her and just assumes she’s another caretaker, so Monica decides to play along, eventually building a relationship she never dreamed could exist previously, while also reconnecting with her brother (Joshua Close) and getting to know his wife and kids. Trace may be hiding her identity, but what’s not hiding is that beautiful body!
