Tough cops and jaded hookers both can have hearts of soft and sentimental gold, if the prostitute/police romance of Mitchell (1975) is taken as any reflection of reality. Joe Don Baker, so strikingly and morally rigid as one-man posse Buford Pusser in Walking Tall (1973), stars as the eponymous Mitchell, a lawman who smokes, drinks, eats pizza and stops watching TV long enough to enjoy a tumble with pre-Dynasty beauty Linda Evans. Evans plays a professional gal pal who has been sent to Baker as a bribe from a gang of bad guys. When Evans and Baker take their relationship from pay-for-play to the higher realm of love, the criminals and Baker’s cop bosses are all displeased.
