Little Voice (1998)

Little Voice (1998) is the story of a very shy woman, played by Jane Horrocks, who lives a reclusive life listening to old records in her room, records her late father left her. She lives with her mother, who is alcoholic and a browbeater, played by Brenda Blethyn, who gets sexy in stockings if not naked. When it becomes clear that she has the ability to perfectly mimic these great song sirens of the past, a sleazy talent agent, played by Michael Caine, exploits her into performing publicly. Jane is a talent actress and singer, she sings all the material in the movie, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s cute. It does hurt that she’s not naked. But Karen Gregory, as a topless performer, is.
