Le sourire (1994)

Whether watching Luis Buñuel’s Belle de Jour (1967), Bernardo Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris (1972), Roger Vadim’s Don Juan, or If Don Juan Were a Woman (1973), Just Jaeckin’s Story of O (1975), David Hamilton’s A Summer in St. Tropez (1981), Jean-Jacques Annaud’s The Lover (1992) or Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue Is the Warmest Colour (2013), it’s obvious Americans adore French skinema! This is especially true when it comes to Le sourire (1994). Also known as The Smile, the foreign film follows Pierre-François (Jean-Pierre Marielle), a psychiatrist who is married, bored, and lonely. Upon meeting a sexy tennis coach called Odile (Emmanuelle Seigner), he throws caution to the wind and falls madly in love with her. Ironically, their relationship causes Pierre-François to come to terms with his sad life and the reasons for his betrayal of various women. These babes include Brigitte (Nathalie Cardone) whose full frontal nudity makes a splash during a skinny-dipping scene and Cisca (Jeanne Savary) who displays her naked T&A on stage. The same can be said for strippers Chipper (Noëlla Dussart) and Tuttut (Mathilde Seigner), who also flaunt their fluffy muffs! If that’s not sexy enough, erotic Odile provides Pierre-François (and us) with views of her three Bs throughout the movie. The topless hottie dons black panties 42 minutes into the flick. She then reveals her rump post-hump before strutting her stuff in the total buff! Under the direction of Claude Miller, this French-language film leaves nothing to the imagination. As a result, nothing gets lost in translation!
