Laurel Canyon (2002)

Writer and director Lisa Cholodenko takes movie goers on a twisted journey to Laurel Canyon (2002), where hippie chicks preaching free love still raise their freak flags as they lower their drawers. One such woman is a record producer named Jane (Frances McDormand) who is coupled with Ian McKnight (Alessandro Nivola). The British bloke makes love to Jane while making music in her studio/house. When she flashes her pebbles, Ian’s band rocks out. But there’s tension on the horizon as Jane’s straight-laced son Sam (Christian Bale) and his even more conservative fiancée Alex (Kate Beckinsale) arrive home for a culture clash. While Sam disapproves of his mom’s hedonistic lifestyle, Alex is surprisingly seduced by it. In fact, Ms. Beckinsale shows off her bra-clad mams and toned tummy when she joins Frances and Alessandro for a group make-out session in the pool. Needless to say, Kate makes a splash on screen — and elsewhere! Meanwhile, Sam is interning at a mental ward where a patient (Gina Doctor) stands naked before him. Sam plays it cool, but later he gets hot and bothered by fellow resident Sara (Natascha McElhone). Unfortunately, she keeps her hospital gown on. When Sam arrives home to see his woman with his mother, he loses his temper. But eventually forgives Alex when she professes her love to him. Inspired by a Joni Mitchell album, this lyrical pic includes Catherine McGoohan, Melissa De Sousa, Michelle DeMirjian, and Brandy Nightingale’s nude boobs! No wonder Mr. Skin is packing it for Laurel Canyon.
