What do you get when John Travolta's bro directs Rod Stewart's ex in a movie about a killer obsessed with chess? Final Move (2006), an angsty thriller with melodramatic filler and a psychic cop with a mind full of fuzz. Matt Schulze has checked himself into the local laugh factory after a case checkmated his brain, and it eats at him still, even though the killer in question has been thoroughly killed. Then something happens that gives him chills: another murder that's similar to the ones that broke his brain. Naturally Matt has to come back and team up with his old colleagues Lochlyn Munro and Rachel Hunter. Wait, hold up . . . Matt, you rat! You gave up all that? A padded room over Rachel's bazooms? To be fair, he has a wife (Amanda Detmer), so perhaps that explains his preference for institutionalized life. Final Move features Daniel Baldwin and David Carradine in minor parts, and it has more melodrama than your usual serial killer lot, so it's not for the viewer who wants more gunshots than plot.
