The circumstances of the slayings resonate within him, striking instinctual chords. Each of the victims had been adopted as a child. The cop himself had been given up by his birth parents. The similarities between the detective and the deceased, the detective senses, go deeper, to the very genetic code of his existence. If only he had a father’s hand to guide him.
