A pair of wily, graying scoundrels allows their love of gambling to get away from them in the absurdist German comedy Ein Dicker Hund (1982). Eduard von Bittermagen (Gunther Philipp) and Professor Pfiff (Willy Millowitsch) would happily bet on the speed of drying paint if they had money to ante. So when Bittermagen bets his egghead friend that his good-for-nothing nephew will marry the prof’s hot daughter, Pfiff eagerly shakes on it. Plenty of slapstick ensues as Bittermagen tries to manipulate the outcome in any way possible. Fortunately the hapless wagerers keep clothed, but the same can’t be said for feisty co-starlets Birgit Buschak and Renate Langer.
