In the landmark 1975 TV movie Helter Skelter, diabolical-eyed Steve Railsback portrayed Charles Manson, the most famous violent criminal of twentieth-century America. Twenty-five years later, Railsback tackled the madman who is arguably number two when it comes to infamous U.S. killers, taking on the titular role in Ed Gein (2000). In real life Gein was a Wisconsin farmer with an attachment to his mother so unnatural that he kept her corpse around long after her demise. He also ate human organs and donned human flesh (other than his own) as clothing. Railsback is chilling, memorable, and even moving as the monstrous murderer in a movie that is well made, suspenseful, and rife with insight into the darkest aspects of life on earth.
