Desperation Road (2023)

Maben (Willa Fitzgerald) and her daughter Analee (Pyper Braun) are traveling across the state of Mississippi looking for shelter. Maben scrapes together enough for one night at a motel, but while trying to figure out her next move, she gets mistaken for a sex worker by a local police officer (Shiloh Fernandez), who drags her away from the motel (and her daughter) and has his way with her before offering her up to his friends. In order to get away, she grabs his gun and kills him, and as she and Analee are on the run, they encounter a man named Russell (Garret Hedlund). Newly released from prison after serving seven years for killing some in a drunk driving incident, Russell has been staying at his dad Mitchell (Mel Gibson)’s farm and he invites the two to stay there as well. Despite his dad urging him to move on, Russell is still dealing with his past mistake, confronted by the brothers of his victim, and now Maben and Analee, who it turns out are also connected to the crime. There’s a bit of skin as we see Willa stripped down to her undies by the bad cop, and get a brief glimpse of her headlights when she grabs his gun.
