Review

Lonely ladies will go to any lengths to banish their sexual solitudes, and ethics-free cads will stop at nothing in their exploitation of vulnerable femininity, which makes for a volatile and murderous mix of yearning and greed in Deep Crimson (1996). A variation on themes and situations from The Honeymoon Killers (1970), played out in 1940s northern Mexico, Deep Crimson follows the twisted passion and spiraling disintegration of an oddly loving couple who make a living by persuading love-parched senoritas to hand over all their worldly goods to the sweet-talking, sugar-lipped man of the couple, who in a pinch will marry the victim. Of course, these unions were not meant to last, but then nothing ever does--except for the eternity in hell this parasitical pair is destined to share.
