James Woods plays a hard-edged police detective who’ll stop at nothing to nab a ruthless serial killer in the gritty genre flick Cop (1988). Set on the mean streets of inner-city Los Angeles, James B. Harris’s James Ellroy adaptation stars Woods as Lloyd Hopkins, a streetwise cop who’s determined to capture the psychopath responsible for a string of brutal killings. In order to claim the grand prize, Hopkins will have to immerse himself in L.A.’s drug culture, hunting out clues even as he casts aside bad guys in favor of public enemy number one. The title of Harris’s film is elegantly to the point, and co-star Randi Brooks keeps with that spirit in her role as leather-clad Joanie Pratt. She may not flash skin, but she leaves no doubt that she’s a sensational lay.
