Blonde (2022)

Great Nudity!

Review

One of the most controversial and talked about movies of the 2020s—almost all of which came before the film was even released—was the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde (2022). As the first mainstream film since Blue is the Warmest Color (2013) to get released with an NC-17 rating, it's understandable that the film would be the subject of so much hype, not to mention the fact that it's based on the salacious 1999 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates.

Blonde comes to us from director Andrew Dominik (Killing Them Softly, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and stars Ana de Armas as Monroe, tracking her rise from obscurity to stardom, and placing a particularly strong emphasis on how she was abused and mistreated by everyone around her. That began with her mother, played by Julianne Nicholson, who has a pair of nude scenes at the 11 and 13 minute marks.

When Ana de Armas takes over the role just past the 15 minute mark, we see her topless almost immediately as she re-creates some of the most classic Norma Jean photographs taken before she transformed herself into Marilyn Monroe. Ana goes nude almost a dozen more times after that, though it's not always in the sexiest of contexts.

The most talked about scene in the entire film comes at the two hour and fifteen minute mark and finds Marilyn going down on John F. Kennedy (Caspar Phillipson), which is sure to stir up even more controversy for a film that seems to be positively drowning in it!

One thing is for certain, however, and that is the fact that Ana de Armas is absolutely sensational in the lead role and her penchant for going nude on film definitely helps to soften some of the harder blows this film packs. She truly is a Blonde bombshell for the ages!
