Anne Boleyn (2021)

Was there ever a more tragic figure in the history of the world than Anne Boleyn (Jodie Turner-Smith)? Her life was a series of broken engagements, lost children, and the object of obsession/desire (until she wasn't anymore!) by one of the more vile and powerful men of her time, Henry VIII.  As the story of the Tudor household has been told countless times, this new series from AMC+ focuses on the final months of Anne Boleyn's life and her constant struggle within the Tudor household to produce a male heir to the thrown.  For those who don't know the history, Anne was pursued by Henry VIII because of her beauty and his penchant for getting whatever he wanted as King of England.  Once he finally got Anne to break off her engagement and marry him, she only produced him a lone female heir, Elizabeth I.  When they continued to try and have a male heir to the crown of England, Anne subsequently had miscarriage after miscarriage, leading Henry to pursue another woman who might be more "fertile". The problem with that is that the church frowned upon divorce, so King Henry had to concoct an excuse to get rid of his current wife and he said she was unfaithful and a traitor, (spoiler alert!) so she was arrested and thrown in the Tower of London, until he had her beheaded!  What a gold star asshole that guy was! Her execution helped turn her into a martyr of English Reformation and her daughter went on to become one of the greatest monarchs ever, so history was at least kind to Anne.  This new series starts the always sexy Jodie Turner-Smith as the titular heroine and while it's a toned down TV, we do still get to see her lactating a bit in episode 2!
