A Spoiling Rain (2023)

Based on an Akutagawa Prize-winning 2000 novella by Hisaki Matsuura, this Japanese drama follows Shuichi Kutani (Go Ayano), a director of erotic films known as “pinku eiga” or “pink films.” Around the turn of the 21st century, he meets Shoko Kirioka (Honami Satô), a young aspiring stage actress and the two begin a torrid affair. Years later, in 2012, Shoko’s body washes ashore after an apparent lover’s suicide with another director during the rainy season. Kutani was still living with her at the time and is tasked with informing her parents. After the funeral, his landlord asks him to help evict another tenant, and Kutani and the tenant, a wannabe screenwriter named Takahisa Iseki (Tasuku Emoto), end up going to a bar and having a drunken conversation where they regale each other with stories about a past lover, only to discover they are both talking about Shoko. It turns out neither relationship went well, with both men being at least partially at fault, but there are plenty of good moments that involve a naked Honami and her T’n’A getting it on with both beaus. Plus there’s an AMAZING black-and-white lesbian scene that turns into a crazy MFF threesome featuring the mam-tastic Minamo in her first nude role! Spoiler Alert - it’ll make you wet as rain!
