Up in Smoke (1978)

Before Harold and Kumar there was Cheech and Chong, and their enduring classic Up in Smoke (1978) remains the holy grail of ganja comedies. Boasting the comic stylings of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, the late-’70s counterculture hit chronicles the exploits of Pedro De Pacas (Marin) and Anthony Stoner (Chong)--two pot-loving cronies on a quest to smuggle a van made from cannabis into the States. With a clutch of cops on their tails, De Pacas and Stoner decide to take their sweet, sweet time, toking up in the backseat and inviting a raft of honeys aboard for kicks. The grass crackles and the girls look fine--you certainly don’t need to be in an altered state to see that twins Madeleine Collinson and Mary Collinson are impossibly hot. Madeleine Collinson shows off her delicious teats at the 43-minute mark. The Collinson Twins' Playboy centerfold is tacked up on the bathroom door. Maddie's left mammie is in view while she stands by her sis. This is one of those classic comedies that if you're a fan of, you'll never get tired of seeing over and over again. The whole cast is excellent and there is great chemistry between Cheech and Chong, obviously. There's also a phenomenal soundtrack and a free-floating...dare we say "stoner-esque" vibe to the plot's rhythm. If Mr. Skin had only one criticism it would be that Up in Smoke does not undress more of the ladies in its cast. It's a minor quibble in an otherwise endlessly watchable stoner comedy!
