Things Heard & Seen (2021)

No Nudity

Review

Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, the directing duo behind such disparate films as American Splendor (2003), The Nanny Diaries (2007), and Girl Most Likely (2012) have ratcheted up the tension for their seventh narrative feature film and their first for Netflix, Things Heard and Seen (2021). Amanda Seyfried stars as Catherine, an artist who upends her life in Manhattan to move with her husband (James Norton) to the more scenic and less hectic Hudson Valley. Upon moving to the country for the first time in her life, Catherine begins to—you guessed it—hear and see things that she can't be sure are real. She suspects that her husband may be having an affair, but there's also a growing suspicion within her that there are some supernatural forces at play in the country home they recently purchased. The notion of a woman unraveling as she questions what's real and what isn't is, of course, a horror trope as old as time itself, so you can pretty much get a handle on where this is all heading. It's either all supernatural or all in her head, or some combination of the two. The destination isn't the fun part, of course, it's the twists and turns of the journey that make this fun, though we're sad to report there's no nudity at all in this flick. We do get some sexy sideboob and pokies from Amanda Seyfried, as well as a sexy shot of Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer in her panties! We liked the sound of Things Heard and Seen, but we didn't like what we've seen... or rather, didn't see!
