The Nightingale (2018)

For the follow-up to her wildly successful debut feature The Babadook (2014), writer/director Jennifer Kent chose to go back in time with the wilderness revenge tale The Nightingale (2018). Aisling Franciosi stars as Clare, an Irish convict who is being transported—along with her husband and child—to a prison colony across the land now known as Tasmania in the early 19th Century. An ambitious soldier named Hawkins (Sam Claflin) and his men are looking to make a name for himself, but after being denied a promotion, he murders Clare's husband and child, viciously assaulting her, and leaving her for dead. When Clare comes to, she is dead set on revenge, enlisting the help of an Aboriginal man named Billy (Baykali Ganambarr) to track and find the men who killed her family. This is a brutal movie with little sexiness to be found in it, but we do get a nice look at Magnolia Maymuru's right breast as she plays an Aboriginal woman similarly brutalized by these soldiers.
