The Myth (2005)

A throwback to the Hong Kong action epics of the 1970s, The Myth (2005) stars Jackie Chan as the unlikeliest of archeologists, bent on procuring the treasures amassed by a Qin Dynasty emperor. On one of his tomb-raiding missions, the avaricious Jack (Chan) discovers a portrait of a beautiful princess that sparks intense flashbacks. It turns out that in a former life the grave-robbing archeologist was a fearless general with a knack for wooing women and slaying bad guys. Fortunately director Stanley Tong is more than happy to zip centuries into the past to show General Chan getting his groove on. Indian Princess Mallika Sherawat is ravishing as the object of Chan’s affections, but period conventions require that she keep clothed.
