The Collector (1965)

The Collector (1965) is a thriller based on the disturbing novel by John Fowles about Terence Stamp playing a man who kidnaps Samantha Eggar and holds her hostage just for the pleasure of having her there. Who can’t relate to that? Sure, we’re bound by ethical and moral orders, and that restraint is crucial to a civic peace. But how many among us haven’t thought how easy it would be to just reach out and take what you wanted, especially when it’s bouncing or wiggling there on the street right in front of our hungry eyes. Guess that’s what arts for, to explore these urges that would otherwise get us imprisoned. Samantha was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her performance, and she should have won it, if only for the brief boob exposure about 100 minutes into the film.
