In 2025, English actress and sometimes singer Ella Hunt released her first single in a year a half (the follow up to 2023’s “Motel Blues”). “Subway Trash” was accompanied by a video that Ella also directed, meant to be a recreation of artist Diego Velasquez’s painting titled The Rokeby Venus. The goddess of Love, Venus, lays in a bed nude while looking in a mirror held up by her son Cupid, and the video has Ella stepping in for Venus, singing into her reflection while reclined, her bare buns facing the camera. This pose was also used in a black and white photo by Helmut Newton, a fetishistic version of The Rokeby Venus from the late 70s/early 80s that (according to Ella) hung in her childhood bedroom. She admits “Subway Trash” is a sad song about seeking attention by conforming to the male gaze, but wanted the video to feel colorful and vibrant “like a Caravaggio painting had a baby with David Lynch” instead of “subdued or melancholy.” We think the key to that is really Ella’s keister. No one could be sad while looking at that ass!
