Side Effects (2013)

The psychological thriller Side Effects (2013), not to be confused with the Katherine Heigl rom-com Side Effects (2005), features Catherine Zeta-Jones, Channing Tatum, Jude Law, Polly Draper, Vinessa Shaw, and Rooney Mara’s nudity! Perhaps that’s why the skintastic starlet was nominated for Best Actress from the International Online Cinema Awards. Originally titled The Bitter Pill, this Steven Soderbergh flick follows anxious chick Emily Taylor (Mara) whose husband Martin Taylor (Tatum) is worried that she is going to end her own life. So her current shrink Dr. Jonathan Banks (Law) gets in touch with her past psychiatrist Dr. Victoria Siebert (Zeta-Jones) to prescribe a new medication. Unfortunately, this isn’t much of a fix since it causes Emily to sleepwalk and stab her spouse to death. But Em gets off when she pleads insanity. Mr. Skin also got off when Ms. Mara bares her breasticals while riding her hubby with a chubby when he still was alive. Throughout the course of the story, Dr. Banks realizes that Mrs. Taylor wasn’t really depressed, that she faked her suicide attempts, and planned to murder her man all along. Indeed, we wonder if she’s really into guys since the heady hottie gets busy with Dr. Victoria 1 hour and 36 minutes into the movie. Who needs Viagra when you can watch Rooney and Catherine swapping sapphic spit? No wonder the R rated drama was a success at the box office and with critics. Of course, the real side effects of Side Effects is the boners on audiences!
