Directed by Danish up-and-comer Susanne Bier, the icy thriller Sekten (1997) follows a pair of female best friends as they investigate their suspicions about a local psychiatrist. Scandinavian beauties Sofie Gråbøl and Ellen Hillingsø star as Mona and Anne, two friends who consult with one another when the latter’s psychiatric counselor (Sverre Anker Ousdal) begins displaying oddly aggressive character traits. Before they know it, the two women have been pulled into a bizarre head-shrinking world where there’s quite a lot to be feared from the doctor’s couch. Fortunately both women are kind enough to take time out for flesh flashing in gratuitous scenes that feature some X-rated freshening up.
