Rosa e Cornelia (2000)

Set in eighteenth-century Venice, Giorgio Treves’s historical drama Rosa e Cornelia (2000) stars Chiara Muti as a young fiancée unfortunate enough to be pregnant with an illicit suitor’s child. Cornelia’s (Muti) parents decide to handle the situation by bustling their daughter off to the countryside, where she’s looked after by a nursemaid (Stefania Rocca) who’s also pregnant. The young women naturally develop a powerful bond, and it isn’t long before Cornelia’s sworn off both of her men for good. Treves is good enough to render the countryside idyll with plenty of sexual electricity, coaxing both Muti and Rocca into shedding their threads for exquisite reveals.
