Review

A pulpit-thumping confidence man empties the coffers of an unsuspecting southern congregation in the cult-classic comedy Preacherman (1971). Albert T. Viola stars as Amos Huxley, a phony preacher who arrives in a slumbering North Carolina hamlet to warn denizens of the imminent hellfire and brimstone. Huxley’s real purpose, however, is to loot the local churchgoers, imbibe copious moonshine, and bag the town’s most buxom local (Ilene Kristen)––a holy trilogy at which he succeeds most swimmingly. The biggest blessing of all’s the fact that Kristen and costar Shiela Gibson flaunt their southern-fried skin for the Preacherman in a pair of hospitable scenarios.
