This German-Turkish treat honors both sides of her ancestry by dividing her time between Berlin and Istanbul. She spent most of her time growing up in Germany, attending the Acting Studio Frese and Hamburg's Schauspiel Studio Frese to study theatre. Meryem started racking up minor roles in television and short films in 2008, and then landed her big breakthrough in 2011 when she was cast as Hürrem Sultan in the series The Magnificent Century. The role garnered her 23 awards during her time on the show and in 2012 she was named Woman of the Year by GQ Turkey. Since then, she’s been seen in the feature films My Mother’s Wound (2016), Cingöz Recai (2017), Keeping the Bees (2019), and Güzel bir rüya (2022), while also appearing on the small screen in Queen of the Night (2016) and Eskiya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz (2016-2017). But it was her role in the 2024 drama series RU that had Meryem putting the boob in boob tube! As a middle-aged woman having a passionate romance with an 18-year-old, Meryem’s mams made many cameos.
