The life of classical composer Gustav Mahler unfolds over the course of one very metaphorical train ride in Mahler (1974). Mahler (Robert Powell) and his wife Alma (Georgina Hale) are trapped together in an enclosed train car, and in this cramped space they must confront their troubled relationship and failed marriage. Every word evokes an image in this dense, symbolism-laden movie that blends dreams, memories, fantasy and reality. Georgina keeps her peach inside panties lined with diamonds, but she’ll really tickle your trombone when she toplessly mounts a tuba in a far-out fantasy orchestra. Who wouldn’t like to Bahler?
