La colmena (1982)

La Colmena (1982) is a collection of sad Spanish stories circa 1942, diving through the lives of many inhabitants of Madrid during moments following the Spanish Civil War. Although many different occupations get featured, the main focus is on the lower class poets, who bear the brunt of Franco’s iron rule, as contrasted by the emerging capitalists that thrive economically through their shady business practices. Many scenes take place in coffee houses, brothels, and apartments, and, as you can imagine, the bohemian nature of the film doesn’t shy away from nudity. Victoria Abril gets undressed in a dim interior before jumping into bed with a dude, and we get treated to teats and tush. Ana Belén also whips out her tatas for an old dude, and then quickly puts them back away. How else would poets get their inspiration?
