Matador (1986)

Master of quirk Pedro Almodóvar unearths his dark side in the erotic thriller Matador (1986). Not to be confused with the television series Matador (2014) starring Gabriel Luna, this pic follows Diego Montes (Nacho Martinez), an eccentric ex-matador who still lives his life like he’s in the ring. Despite the fact that the dude stopped bullfighting, he can’t quite stop killing even though his occupation is to teach aspiring matadors the tricks of the trade. One of these students is Ángel Giménez (Antonio Banderas), an avid fan who has no idea that Diego is no longer up to snuff . . . or that he’s actually making snuff films in his spare time. No wonder this film is rated NC-17! Ángel tries to prove his machismo to Diego by seducing his woman Eva (Eva Cobo). After getting a good look at her full frontal nudity, we can hardly blame him! Yet when Ángel’s romantic overtures fail, he winds up confessing to a slew of slayings that he didn’t do. Meanwhile, we’d love to do the movie’s female cast which includes Bibi Andersen, Carmen Maura, Julieta Serrano, Verónica Forqué, and Assumpta Serna. As María, the latter Latina plays Ángel’s attorney. Her character has a few sadistic twists up her sleeve — that is, when she’s wearing clothes. For much of the pic, the sexpot dons her birthday suit! Indeed, the naked babe displays her breasts and bush in three different scenes. Needless to say, Ms. Serna will make you horny as a bull!
