Cruelty doesn't necessarily make a person bad. Some people are mean not out of any inherent malice but because they are insecure, afraid of making themselves vulnerable to being disliked or rejected. Or, in the case of a brutal, antagonistic, and sadistic female prison guard as played by comely Kristin Rohde on the HBO murder and sodomy prison-life extravaganza Oz, a broad may play tough titty because it's just not good policy to look like a pussy. And in the course of her Oz tenure, the tender impulses that Rohde's Officer Claire Howell so viciously tried to disguise with sneering contempt emerged as surely as love must. Then her life really went to shit.
