Frequently compared to Good Bye Lenin! (2002), the German romantic comedy Kleinruppin Forever (2004) similarly explores the distinctions between life in East and West Germany circa the mid-1980s. Tobias Schenke stars as Tim, a West German teen who dreams of becoming a tennis phenomenon. On a school trip to the GDR, Tim is shaken when he’s introduced to his long-lost identical twin (also played by Schenke). Curious about life on the other side of the wall, both boys decide to live for a bit in each other’s shoes by secretly swapping identities. One key advantage is that it allows them to sample new babes--Anna Brüggemann, Mirjam Neebe, and Nadine Warmuth play passing fancies for the horny teens, who grow quickly convinced that life is greener on the other side of the fence.
