Following the smash hit success of their Pirates of the Caribbean franchise—while also ignoring the utter failure of The Country Bears (2002), Haunted Mansion (2003), and Tomorrowland (2015)—Disney made their latest attempt to adapt one of their theme park rides into a major motion picture with Jungle Cruise (2021). Taking inspiration not just from the ride but also from John Huston's classic The African Queen (1951), the film follows the exploits of Amazon riverboat captain Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson) who makes runs up and down the river during World War I. British scientist Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) employs Wolff to take her on a voyage to discover the fabled "Tree of Life" hidden deep in the jungles of the Amazon rainforest, hoping that its healing properties can be replicated outside of its current remote location. They soon find themselves in a race against time when a rival German scientist (Jesse Plemons) charters a boat captained by a dangerous mercenary named Aguirre (Edgar Ramirez) in hopes of beating Wolff and Houghton to the Tree. Of course, none of this is to mention the many additional dangers posed by nature itself, any one of which could put an abrupt end to their quest! As a family friendly adventure film marketed to families, one can't go into this Disney adventure hoping for nudity. There is one dead sexy scene where Emily Blunt brings a touch of her non-Disney sexiness to the screen just prior to the ninety minute mark, when she goes for a swim in a white slip and then is slightly see-through when she gets out of the water! However, you might want to head down river and away from the Mouse House if you're looking for anything more on this Jungle Cruise!
