Known as “the lost Vincent Gallo film,” this romantic drama from Morocco-born music video director Erick Ifergan was shot back in 1998 while Gallo was still trying to complete his breakout indie Buffalo ’66. Originally titled Hollywood Salome, this modern take on Oscar Wilde’s scandalous 1891 one-act about the biblical princess was first screened at the 1998 New York Underground Film Festival, and underground is where it would stay until 2007, when a reworked version turned up at the Drake International Film Festival Caserta. It promptly disappeared again, and wouldn’t resurface until 2012, when it popped up on YouTube. In it, Gallo plays a street preacher named Johnny who passes out pamphlets and tries to save the masses who walk by him on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. His costar is former supermodel Nina Brosh, who plays a hairdresser so struck by the 1953 film Salome directed by William Diete that she leaves her job, eventually runs into Johnny, and is instantly smitten. She follows him around, but he rebukes her advances, so she seeks out help from a pimp to end his life. Earlier, the pimp tries to get her to join his harem of topless ladies giving out lap dances, but despite showing off a lot of cleavage, Nina saves her one brief nude scene for Vincent just over thirty minutes in. That’s followed by a dream sequence full of shots of more nameless (and faceless) naked gals, so we’re assuming 316 is actually the number of strokes you’ll give yourself while watching!
