Cafe Society (1995)

Real life can be a hot inspiration for skinematic treats, especially when a movie is based on the true exploits of a rich bon vivant who goes slumming with the high-priced sexual demimondaine of 1980s Manhattan. The "cafe" in Cafe Society (1985) refers to a swank bistro that is a front for hookers whose rental fees are higher than the purchase price of a decent, similarly used automobile. The film is stylish, directed by Academy Award winner Raymond DeFelitta, and studded with suggestive settings and circumstances.
