Inside Man (2006), a Denzel-helmed movie directed by none other than Spike Lee, is a bank heist movie—or is it? That's the point of this crime thriller, a story that follows Dalton Russell (Clive Owen) from a cell, where he explains that he's planned the perfect bank robbery. It seems that way at first too, as he's arranged for a gang of thieves, all dressed as painters, to take everyone in a Wall Street bank hostage and forced said hostages to dress just like them. Detective Frazier (Denzel Washington) is sent to negotiate, but a power-suited power broker (Jodie Foster) starts meddling on account of the bank's shady chairman. Lo and behold, it turns out he's harboring some pretty sinister stuff in a safe deposit box that he doesn't want anyone to find out about, which makes her (and Denzel) wonder—this isn't about robbing a bank at all, is it? We won't ruin the surprise for you, but we will say this much: The hostages are all forced to strip down to their underwear before they get into their paint garb, and we get to see Rozanne Sher in her skivvies. Talk about distracting.
