Hammers Over the Anvil (1991)

Hammers Over the Anvil (1991) is a gorgeous, visual-rich Australian story of a young boy’s first encounters with the mysterious feelings of passion and longing that seem to propel the world to its secret purposes. Charlotte Rampling, gorgeous like a cool pond of longing, is a married woman who befriends an awkward, crippled adolescent boy. Rampling, gorgeous like the depths of passion, is also engaged in an extramarital affair with a local cowboy played by Russell Crowe, a loner icon idolized by the awkward, crippled adolescent. When the boy spies his benefactress and his idol sweaty, naked and swirling in the hay of a horse stable floor, not only does he begin to understand the mysteries of life, he becomes a part of them.
