Directed by French cinema legend Claude Chabrol, the stylish screen comedy Folies bourgeoises (1976) represents a dramatic shift away from the director’s favored Hitchcockian mysteries. Based on a popular novel by Lucie Faure, the drawing-room comedy explores the uproarious confusions that stem from the frequent infidelities of an American novelist (Bruce Dern) and his aristocratic French wife (Stéphane Audran). The Versailles-born beauty uses every sumptuous tool at her disposal to lure horny bachelors into her erotic web, while costar Sybil Danning proves adept at winning Dern over with her juicy orbs.
