Do opposites attract? That is the central question in the thoughtful film Every Time We Say Goodbye (1986). It is also a curiosity because it stars Tom Hanks before he became a multiple Oscar winner. But there's more to this film to love than a mere footnote in a box-office star's résumé. Hanks plays a wounded pilot recovering in Jerusalem where he falls for the tiny-topped Cristina Marsillach, a Jew to his gentile. But despite the difference in religions, all the parts fit, as lucky Hanks finds when he docks his jet in Cristina's hangar. That's a mitzvah and a blessing!
