A volatile teen girl and her cancer-stricken mother engage in a tense emotional battle in the German television production Ende der Saison (2001). Anneke Kim Sarnau delivers a potent performance as Klarissa, an affectionate but headstrong young woman who tends to her critically ill mother (Hannelore Elsner). When Klarissa’s allegiances are torn between her needy mom and her boy toy, Enno (Christian Brückner), she must choose between the two. Sarnau nabbed a pair of prestigious awards for her performance here, and it seems likely that the jury was influenced by her sensational skin turns, which help to spice up an otherwise grim and sobering drama.
