Pop superstar Christina Aguilera caused a stir with the first single from her sophomore album, Stripped. Observant viewers took note of a series of posters in the Dirrty (2002) video that advertise Thailand’s sex tourism industry. Toss in some simulated masturbation from the blonde bombshell--while cooing “I need that, uh, to get me off”--and you’ve got one of the most controversial (and oft-played) videos in MTV history. Directed by cutting-edge photographer David LaChapelle, the six-million-dollar shoot was worth every penny as the song rocketed up the charts. Aguilera has never looked more alluringly dangerous or downright “Dirrty” as this.
