A cop is pushed off the police force, only to find himself the target of a set-up in the German crime comedy Die Superbullen (1997). Frequently likened to Blake Edwards’s Pink Panther cycle (largely because it rips off a few bars of the catchy theme), Otto Retzer’s farce stars Wolfgang Fierek as Inspector Franz Faltinger, a capable cop who’s injured in a motorcycle accident. When his rival, Hans Kleiber (Ottfried Fischer), takes over Franz’s cases, the disabled sleuth is not only pushed out of the way, but is actually targeted for investigation by his ex-colleagues. Badge or no badge, Franz vows to protect a wealthy family from a perceived threat. Fortunately niece Silvia Vas doesn’t need any protection from the sun when she sunbathes outdoors.
