An unemployed cellist learns to appreciate life by working with the dead in Departures (2008). After Daigo (Masahiro Motoki) loses his job as a cellist in a local orchestra, he and his wife move back to his hometown. Thinking it's a travel agency, Daigo answers an ad in the paper entitled  "Departures"; but when he arrives, he is surprised to learn that the job is actually in the taboo world of "Nokanshi," the art of preparing the dead for funerals. The "Nokanshi" are considered unclean in Japanese society, but in desperation Daigo takes the job anyway. But he will learn to love his job as he goes on a profound and sometimes funny journey with death. It's a heavy subject, but Ryoko Hirosue will make you spring to light when her hubby pulls down her pants to expose her panties 42 minutes in.
