Das Versprechen (1994)

The German drama Das Versprechen (1994) takes place in East Berlin just after the erection of the Berlin Wall. Konrad (August Zirner) and Sophie (Corinna Harfouch) are attempting to escape to West Berlin, but only Sophie makes it over successfully. For the next three decades, Konrad, who has become a well-known scientist, tries to dodge the East German secret police and get back to Sophie. You might find yourself holding an iron curtain rod when you see the righteous rump of Meret Becker, who plays Young Sophie.
