Dagon (2001)

Question: What do you get when you combine H. P. Lovecraft’s short story “Dagon” (1919) with his novella “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” (1931)? Answer: the Spanish horror flick Dagon (2001). Also known as Dagon, la secta del mar, the R-rated pic follows Paul Marsh (Ezra Godden) and his girlfriend Barbara (Raquel Meroño) who are on holiday with their pals Howard (Brendan Price) and Vicki (Birgit Bofarull). But their dream vacation turns into a nightmare after their boat sinks and they wash up in the weird village of Imboca. It turns out that the inhabitants have a good thing going with a Sea God named Dagon. They worship him, and he blesses them by allowing his freaky offspring to run all over town. Under the direction of horror veteran Stuart (Castle Freak, Re-Animator) Gordon, this creepy sleeper features its fair share of skin. For starters, Ms. Bofarull sunbathes sans top. Later, when all hell breaks loose, Ms. Meroño reveals her bloody rack while being shackled and dangled at the request of demented High Priestess Uxía Cambarro (Macarena Gómez). This latter chick is actually half human and half sea creature. The good thing is Uxía has the ass of a human and she’s not afraid to show it! Uxía also lets Ezequiel (Francisco Rabal) open her robe to expose a tit… and gils! Plus, there’s a fantasy scene wherein Rabal envisions the bare-breasted Macarena as a mermaid. Needless to say, this eerie film drips with underwater imagery that’ll make you reach for a towel!
