Jon Hamm takes over for Chevy Chase, stepping into the shoes of author Gregory Mcdonald’s infamous investigative reporter I.M. Fletcher for this adaption of the 1976 novel. We first see him arriving from the airport in Boston to find the dead body of a woman in his rental home. After being questioned by the police, we flash back a month to Rome, where the former journalist meets with Angela (Lorenza Izzo), the daughter of a wealthy man who hired him to find nine expensive paintings that had been stolen. He reveals he’s discovered that two of the paintings were recently auctioned off in Boston, and he enlists her help in figuring out how they got there and what happened to the rest. But before they can take on the case, he first takes her to Bone Town! We see Lorenza riding him in bed, but sadly, don’t get a look at the goods. Then they learn her father has been kidnapped while her stepmother (Marcia Gay Harden) - who Angela suspects is involved in the theft - was away visiting her brother in Milan. Turns out the kidnappers are only interested in the $20 million dollar Picasso that was stolen. So now the clock is really ticking for Fletch find that painting, which is kind of hard to do when the police suspect him of murder. We still think Lorenza’s the real work of art here and the crime is not getting to see more of her beautiful body!
