It’s the story of Alma Mahler (Emily Cox), young, free-spirited wife of famed composer Gustav Mahler, (Marcello De Nardo) who we first meet when she is on tour with her husband in America. Though she wants to be a composer herself, she’s resigned to simply serving as her husband’s assistant while also carrying out an affair with Berlin architect Walter Gropius (Anton von Lucke). She admits to the relationship before Gustav’s death, and when expressionist painter and dramaturg Oskar Kokoschka (Valentin Postlmayr) shows up to make a death mask of her late husband, she agrees to let him paint her as well and it sparks a passionate relationship between the two. Then when Alma hires conductor Bruno Walter (Mehmet Ateşçi) to helm the premiere of Gustav’s 9th Symphony, Oskar gets jealous and possessive.
