Most film fans remember Sharon Tate and Patty Duke as stars of the incredibly sordid Valley of the Dolls (1967). Barbara Parkins tends to be forgotten as the movie's third gritty gal, despite her own impressive body of work. Parkins first became a sex symbol in 1964, starring on the scandalous soap Peyton Place. After the murder of Sharon Tate, though, Barbara fled Hollywood and spent her career bringing class and sex appeal to European productions like Puppet on a Chain (1972) and Shout at the Devil (1976). She also became a '70s scream queen after memorable--and kinky--roles in The Mephisto Waltz (1971) and Asylum (1972). She even served up her bare boobies in Breakfast in Paris (1981). Barbara announced her retirement in 1997, but her long, strange career certainly doesn't rule out a surprise comeback.
