Based on Jacqueline Susanns 1966 novel of the same name, Valley of the Dolls (1967) follows the highs and lows of Anne Welles (Barbara Parkins), Neely O’Hara (Patty Duke), and Jennifer North (Sharon Tate) as they climb the show biz ladder. While these Hollywood hotties rise to fame with their warm forms and tantalizing talents, audience members will feel the heat and rise too! This is especially true when Ms. Duke flashes her bra-clad rack and Ms. Parkins flaunts her bare back. If that’s not arousing enough, Ms. Tate struts her stuff in an itsy bitsy teeny weeny bikini! Later, the blonde bombshell explodes onscreen when she appears in a French flick. The foreign film within this movie includes the ingénue’s lace brassiere and bare boobage. Ooh la la! Alas, when these characters become celebs, they are dismayed that the limelight is not the flattering shade they thought it would be. Each disconnects by delighting in pills — taking little “dolls” that put them to sleep, kick them awake, and make life seem instantly great. Find out what happens when their collective quest for fortune and immediate gratification leads to a dead-end. Also featuring Susan Hayward, the camp classic spawned the skinematic spoof Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) and the television remakes Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls (1981) with Catherine Hicks and Valley of the Dolls (1994) with Sally Kirkland. Despite mixed reviews, the original flick was a massive hit at the box office and in our spank banks!
