Avrio tha einai arga (2003)

Greek documentarian Laya Giourrgou takes a break from non-fiction filmmaking with the jet-black romantic comedy Avrio tha einai arga (2003). Alexis Georgoulis plays an incarcerated crook who’s begrudgingly granted a furlough to attend a funeral. Making the most of his brief weekend in the sun, the thief tracks down a prostitute (Marina Kalogirou) for some once-in-a-blue-moon lovin’. He ends up so smitten with the woman that he steals a car and takes the hooker for an epic joyride, causing the cops to follow in pursuit with their sirens screaming. Georgoulis’s character may be out of practice in the sack, but he gets the hang of things pretty quickly with Greek goddess Kalogirou--the couple even performs a bedroom gymnastics routine worthy of Olympic gold.
